Film School: Exercise Two "Character"
This is the second short film that I shot for school. It was shot on a Sony FX7 to an HDV tape. We had one minute to tell a story about a character using no dialogue. I think this was a big step up from my first exercise especially in the technical aspect. I had multiple shot varieties to cut to in the editing room and other than having to break a few small rules to fit the time limit I feel it runs pretty smooth. The only bummer was that the highway running right behind the station made almost all on-set audio basically useless and there was no time for audio replacement. Usually I'm not big on overlaying musical scores, but I think the sound of Scala's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" playing in reverse gives an eerie depth to the character... Or at least that's what I convinced myself.
Film School: Exercise One "Location"
This is the first short film that I did for school. We had one minute to tell a story using a location, so I decided to use a baseball field. Considering it was shot on a hand-held mini cam I think it came out pretty good. I can see some of my inexperience in the editing, most notably with the sound, but I think most of the shot selection came out really good.
The Art of Cinema Trailers
This is a cheap Windows Movie Maker edit that I did long before my school days, but none-the-less, it's my tribute to the much under-appreciated work of editors out there and I just thought I would share it. Hope you enjoy...
